Daniel Brasic

In today’s world, organizations don’t have to rely on face-to-face communication for conveying information. Instead, they can connect through modes such as email. But what if not every employee has access to a computer? That’s the question Western Window Systems’ web developer Daniel Brasic asked. And thanks to his dedication and resourcefulness, all employees – from the manufacturing floor to the office – are able to receive internal communications at the same time, and in a way that’s most convenient for them.

“It wasn’t anything he was asked to work on,” says Laura Hahnefeld, marketing director for Western Window Systems. “He just thought about it. Solved it. And put it into action. He’ll tell you it wasn’t a big deal, but it was. Until Daniel’s solution, we were communicating to shop employees the old-fashioned way: by placing hard copies of the newsletter around the building and hoping folks would read them.”

To put his idea into action, Brasic first partnered with human resources to collect volunteered personal email addresses. Then, for new employees or those that may have been missed, he generated a QR (Quick Response) code and created a website that allowed employees to sign up for internal communications through their smartphones. Lastly, he promoted his solution through flyers placed around the building, internal TV screens, and a detailed presentation to the company.

“In just a few months, we’ve had about eighty percent of shop employees sign up for our internal email communications,” says Hahnefeld. “I’d say that’s a pretty clear statement of how successful Daniel’s idea is with the team.”

Congratulations to Daniel Brasic, Western Window Systems’ lean problem solver for September.
