Eric Ottesen

In business, as in life, solving problems happens on a regular basis – from simple things like paperwork headaches to complex manufacturing processes. For Eric Ottesen, supply chain analyst for Western Window Systems, problem-solving successes – big and small – happen as a result of thoroughness, communication, and continuous learning.

“Eric is a detail machine!” Says Cameron Wyatt, Western Window Systems vice president of design and supply chain. “He’s relentless when it comes to solving problems – creating stacks of data and huge spreadsheets are not roadblocks for him.”

Wyatt adds that Ottesen’s ability to talk with employees at any level in the company not only provides contextual information for solving larger problems, but helps him to evaluate individual needs as well. Through an understanding of processes and people, Ottesen has been instrumental in the company’s optimization of waste factors and reorder points (including working with the IT department to automate the process) as well as sourcing new racks and equipment.

“His latest win was helping to find a place to hold our Western Window Systems Academy installation training courses during the summer,” says Wyatt. “Eric negotiated with local hotels in the area. The result was a cost savings for us and a cool, comfortable training environment for the attendees.”

Although Ottesen officially started with Western Window Systems in June 2015 – after graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in supply chain management – he was an intern with the company for a year prior. And Wyatt says Ottesen’s motivation to continuously learn and improve himself hasn’t showed any signs of slowing.

“He’s the kind of person who knows that a huge part of self improvement is learning from others,” says Wyatt. “This mindset is powerful and fits perfectly into our culture for solving problems at Western Window Systems.”

Congratulations to Eric Ottesen, Western Window Systems’ lean problem solver for June.
