General
Aluminum bi-fold doors shall be Series 9500 as manufactured by Western Window Systems, 5621 South 25th Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85040-3628. Available in 4.5” frame width and a 2.25” x 3.5” door stile with Western’s 1.5” residential step threshold shall conform to AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2-97 HGD-R20, NFRC 100-2001 for U-factor and NFRC 200-2001 for Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) and Visible Transmittance (VT). Western reserves the right to change specifications without notice.Material
Frame and door panel members shall be of commercial quality 6063-T5 alloy and temper extruded aluminum. Component parts and accessories shall be of aluminum alloy, plated steel, stainless steel, or nonmetallic materials to resist deterioration and corrosion.
Construction
All door frame members shall be neatly fitted and mechanically joined at the corners using plated or stainless steel screws. Door stiles shall be fabricated to achieve an interlock system that engages the rails and is secured with a tie rod assembly to ensure a permanent rigid connection at the top and bottom corners of the door panel. Glazing will be secured with extruded aluminum snap-in stops that can be removed for re-glazing.
Finish
Extruded aluminum members furnished from stock inventory shall be Warmtone tan paint or dark bronze anodized. Custom colors are available in both painted and anodized finishes. Unless otherwise specified, painted finishes on extruded aluminum members shall conform to a minimum of AAMA 2604-02, “Specification for High Performance Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels”. Anodized finishes shall be a minimum of Class II.
Glazing
Insulating glass shall be DUO-PANE® as manufactured by Western Window Systems, and shall conform to ASTM E774-97 Specification for Sealed Insulating Glass. Units shall have a dual seal of polyisobutylene (PIB) and silicone. Insulating glass shall be manufactured using 5mm (3/16”) thick glass with a minimum air gap of .50”. Insulating glass shall conform to ASTM Specification C1036-01, Standard Specification for Flat Glass. All glazing in doors shall be fully tempered or laminated. Laminated is only recommended for special applications up to 28 square feet.
Screens
Western does not provide insect screens for hinged doors.
Weather Stripping
Shall be a foam Q-lon at the doorframe stop, full perimeter on swing out doors and at jambs and head only on swing in doors. Glazing shall be accomplished using a black extruded EDPM bulb on the interior and a non-stretch extruded EDPM rubber wedge on the exterior.
Installation
Shall be in accordance with published instructions by Western Window Systems.
