Variations of commercial aluminum hinged doors have been used in residential applications for many years, and there is good reason why the popularity of this type of product has continued to grow. Unlike wood, aluminum is an extremely stable material that will not expand, contract, warp or bow over time or with variations in temperature and humidity. When a high performance paint or anodized finish is applied, you can expect it to perform many years longer than any field applied finish. Designed for use in commercial buildings with heavy traffic, they rarely require maintenance.
Continuous hinges finished to match the frame color are standard. They are more attractive than conventional butt hinges and will handle the weight of the largest Duo-Pane doors we manufacture.
An extruded aluminum threshold designed specifically for residential applications is included. A .50" exterior step protects against water penetration and allows full perimeter weather-stripping on swing out doors, significantly reducing air infiltration. A 1.5" interior vertical dimension accommodates most floor finishes.
The passive panel of pairs is equipped with an astragal providing continuous weather-stripping between it and the active panel. Although pairs may be desirable in specific applications, we recommend that you consider the use of wide single panels, as they are more secure, weather tight and user friendly than pairs.
Swing in doors are equipped with a weather-strip assembly mounted to the bottom of the door that sweeps against the threshold. We have also developed an innovative system that helps drain water that is attempting to get under the door.
A reliable hardware option to meet swimming pool codes is available. It includes a commercial concealed overhead closure and secondary lock to ensure that the door is self closing and self latching.
The top and bottom door rails are designed to nest with the stiles to eliminate daylight at the corners. All four corners are secured with a tie rod assembly to ensure a permanent rigid connection.
The glazing system accommodates glass up to 1" thick and incorporates an exterior non-stretch wedge type gasket that eliminates the possibility of unsightly gaps caused by shrinkage.
The Western Series 600 Window Wall System is designed to integrate our hinged doors and provides for almost any combination of fixed or operating sidelights and transoms. With a 4.5" frame depth it is compatible with standard storefront systems and can be provided with an optional nail fin located 1" in from the exterior.
To accommodate a much broader range of locking hardware, the width of our Medium door stile is 4.71". Most any hardware available with a 2.375" backset can be used. Unlimited hardware choices and the structural integrity for very large sizes, makes the Medium Stile door our first choice for luxury home applications.
When your design calls for a sleek Narrow Stile version we offer a 2.79" stile width. The Narrow Stile door is limited to our standard Type "A" lever latch hardware, and is available in panel sizes up to 48.00" X 96.00".
