To ensure smooth effortless operation of windows as large as doors, we use butt hinges to mount the sash to the frame and a heavy-duty roto operator to control the degree of opening. To keep the building secure and weather-tight, casements from 24" to 84" in height are equipped with a concealed multi-point locking system actuated by an attractive low-profile lever handle. Homeowners will appreciate the fact that in either the locked or unlocked position the low-profile handle will not interfere with curtains or blinds. The progressive action of the multipoint locking system eliminates the need to force the window closed with the operator. It actually reaches out as much as .50 to pull the sash into the closed position, creating just the right amount of pressure on the weather-stripping. Windows less than 24" in height are equipped with a single point lock.

Configurations

Western's Series 700 Hinged Windows are available in casements, awnings, hoppers and fixed configurations. It is common to combine the operating windows with fixed, or have a series of operating windows in the same frame. The frame depth is 2.81", the same as our Series 100 Horizontal Sliding and Single Hung windows. This common dimension allows us to mull Series 700 with Series 100, or insert either of them into our Series 600 Window Wall System.

Casements

Casements hinge at the side and swing out. They are available in widths from 14" to 36" and heights from 14" to 84". Our casement has been tested and is certified to a "Heavy Commercial" rating of C-HC40, up to a size of 36" X 84". The C-HC40 equates to a design pressure of 40 pounds per square foot, the equivalent of a wind speed of 125 MPH.

Fixed

The Series 700 fixed windows have a very clean flush glazed appearance. They can stand alone, or in combination with any of the operating windows. The fixed window has been tested and is certified at F-C55, up to a size of 60" x 120". The F-C55 equates to a design pressure of 55 pounds per square foot, the equivalent of a wind speed of 145 MPH.

Hopper

Hoppers hinge at the bottom and swing in. They are available in widths from 14" to 60" and heights from 14" to 48", limited to a maximum overall size of 15 square feet. Hoppers make excellent transom or clerestory windows, and can be operated with an extension pole when equipped with an optional ring pull latch lock. The sash is mounted to the frame with two concealed four-bar hinges and is secured with one or two cam handle locks. Windows up to 48" in width have one lock in the center. When the width is greater than 48" there will be two locks mounted at quarter points.

Awning

Awnings hinge at the top and swing out. They are available in widths from 21" to 60" and heights from 14" to 48", limited to a maximum overall size of 15 square feet. It is common to use multiple awnings side-by-side or to insert them into Western's Series 600 window wall system to provide ventilation in large expanses of glass. The sash is mounted to the frame with two concealed four-bar hinges and controlled with a heavy duty single-arm roto operator. Awnings can also be supplied with optional motorized operators to facilitate use in areas difficult to reach, or for your convenience in opening and closing multiple units.

Shapes

Arched casements are available in a standing seg configuration only (an eyebrow with vertical legs) with a minimum radius of 48". They are also available with a raked head, sloped from the hinge side down, as long as the angle does not exceed 20 degrees, a pitch of approximately 4 in 12. Series 700 fixed windows are available in segs (an eyebrow) and standing segs (an eyebrow with vertical legs). They are also available in a true semi-circle configuration where the height is equal to the radius. All fixed windows are limited to a minimum radius of 18.00".

Screen

All hinged windows are provided with insect screens with frames finished to match the window frame color. Uniquely designed concealed spring clips are used to retain the screen without drilled holes or exposed fasteners. The screens are wired with a charcoal colored vinyl coated fiberglass mesh that is resistant to damage and is almost transparent when viewing through the window. Since casements and awnings swing out, the screens are mounted to the interior. Hoppers, which swing in, require them to be mounted to the exterior.
