Material

Door frame and panel members shall be of commercial quality 6063-T5 alloy and temper extruded aluminum. Component parts and accessories shall be of aluminum alloy, stainless steel, plated steel, or nonmetallic materials to resist deterioration and corrosion.

Construction

All frame and panel members shall be neatly fitted and mechanically joined at the corners using plated or stainless steel screws. Panel horizontal members shall be designed to nest with vertical members to eliminate daylight and shine from cut edge. Panel lead stiles, interlock stiles and intermediate frame jamb members shall be full-hollow (tubular) extrusions. All glazed panels shall be removable for re-glazing and maintenance.

Finish

Extruded aluminum members furnished from stock inventory shall be Warmtone Tan paint or dark bronze anodized. Custom colors are available in both painted and anodized finishes. Unless otherwise specified, painted finishes on extruded aluminum frame and screen members shall conform to a minimum of AAMA 2604-02, “Specification for High Performance Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels”. Anodized finishes shall be a minimum of Class II.

Glazing

Insulating glass shall be DUO-PANE® as manufactured by Western Window Systems, and shall conform to ASTM E774-97 Specification for Sealed Insulating Glass. Units shall have a dual seal of polyisobutylene (P.I.B.) and silicone. Insulating glass shall be manufactured using 5mm (3/16") thick glass up to 40 square feet and 6mm (1/4") thick glass over 40 square feet, both with a minimum air gap of .50". Single pane glass, when specified, shall be supplied in 5mm (3/16") up to 32 square feet and 6mm (1/4") over 32 square feet. Insulating and single pane glass shall conform to ASTM Specification C1036-01, Standard Specification for Flat Glass. All glazing in doors shall be fully tempered or laminated. Laminated is only recommended for special applications up to 28 square feet.

Hardware

Sliding panels shall be equipped with a full mortised locking mechanism with a plated steel case and an adjustable hardened steel bolt, extruded aluminum interior pull and durable die cast aluminum exterior pull. Both pulls are painted white for white-framed doors and black for all other frame finishes. An optional cylinder lock with a 5 pin, Schlage, type C keyway is available. Each sliding panel shall be equipped with two tandem wheel assemblies containing ball bearing rollers with a diameter of 1.5" or 1.81", depending on option selected. Each door frame shall be equipped with a stainless steel adjustable strike and a replaceable stainless steel roller track cover. When the stainless steel hardware package is specified, it shall include a stainless steel lock, stainless steel roller assemblies and stainless steel screws for assembly and installation.

Screens

Each operating glass panel shall be equipped with a sliding insect screen wired with 18 X 16 charcoal colored vinyl coated fiberglass mesh. The screen frame shall be a hat shaped, full-hollow (tubular) aluminum extrusion assembled with extruded aluminum corners and secured with plated or stainless steel screws threaded into an integral screw race. Screens shall be equipped with a black plastic interior handle and slide lock assembly, adjustable stainless steel ball bearing rollers at the bottom, a pair of steel tension rollers at the top and a vinyl bug strip where the screen frame meets the panel interlock stile.

Weather-Stripping

Weather-stripping shall be black woven polypropylene pile in the head and threshold adjacent to the sliding panel, and in the fixed panel interlock stile. Weather-stripping in the head and jamb adjacent to the fixed panels, in the sliding panel bottom rail, and surrounding all glazing shall be black extruded vinyl. Weather-stripping in the locking jamb shall be black open-cell urethane foam clad in a polyethylene liner.
